I would spell it out for them like this: if I wanted AI answers, I would type the question in myself. I sure as shit wouldn’t hire an engineer to type in the question. I am someone who hires engineers for services in the electrical industry. I hire engineers for safety, a high level of expertise, and for the certification stamp. Savvy electricians and salespeople can eyeball shit, ask ChatGPT, and get it to work. Engineers’ entire job security is based on actually doing the work, using expertise and actual math. I would tell these young grads that if they are using ChatGPT for anything other than a general compass, they are actively destroying their career, because the moment they do that, they make their “expertise” useless.
