I don't think the dead Internet theory is a conspiracy more of a warning. The whole Internet isn't dead and filled with bots, but some sections/forums are definatly a majority of bots. Lots of 1 month accounts with 7k postings, constantly about a handfull of topics, each reply posting is very genetically written and could apply to more then one original posting. Usually posing a hard right talking point, or misinformation. But the situation is worsening. Another few years and I think the majority of activity will be AI bots.
