It doesn't replace the need, it just means one intern or research assistant can now do the job of 10-20 interns and legal assistants. Law is an area that will be hugely upset. You say that you need roles for when senior lawyers retire, but I'm not sure why. 10-20 people don't need to replace a senior attorney. With how AI is going to disrupt the legal field, some of those senior attorneys might not even need replacing. We'll still need attorneys. They are the ones steering the ship on legal cases. They are the ones making the deals, they are the ones litigating. They are the ones developing relationships with clients, judges, other attorneys that they might oppose or need for their case. But where in the past they would have had a small army of staff, they will now be able to just have a couple jr. attorneys do all their work for them. If you are paralegal or other legal researcher, you need to either get a law degree or switch careers, fast. Because there's about to be a bunch of young attorneys coming out of law school with the skills to do the job of several paralegals, with the added benefit that they can practice law.
