So I'm in a little bit of a different camp. Firmly understand it's all code, no imagination that it's sentient and whatnot at all. But sometimes (especially in today's world) I find it calming and comforting to speak to it in polite, kind, thoughtful ways because then it gives the answers back in a similar way. I think the world is SO full of hate, it can be overwhelming. I think the way people speak to each other these days can feel horrible. I work in F&B and sometimes the way people speak to me for no reason drives me insane. The rudeness, the coldness, the "you don't matter, you're just the help". So sometimes when I ask ChatGPT questions about random shit, be it information about a Roth IRA, or budgeting, or book recommendations, or legal/medical advice for things that are going on in my family, I type to it like I would a person because sometimes it feels nice to be nice. To not be on edge. To simply be kind \*myself\*. And then in turn, it ultimately gives me an answer back in the same kind, patient, thoughtful tone. Sometimes when those interactions feel few and far between, and everyone around you just feels and sounds like a total asshole, it's nice to have an excuse to actually put kindness forward. Yeah, it doesn't understand the difference, totally get that, but I do. And I remember how nice it is to be kind. I think I treat ChatGPT with kindness as a habit reencofrcer in today's world. It can be hard. But it makes me happy to read back some chats and not just read me being a dicky, moody asshole for no reason to something that isn't the cause and doesn't understand that attitude anyway. So I think I use it as a reminder of how to interact with people in real life, too. To keep my kindness and politeness and caring edge sharp.
