I'm not hearing these things from the same people. Actually, I hear the same things from certain classes of people, and different things from different classes. To wit: Dumb people think the AI is dumb. I think this is because they are smart enough to identify where it's dumb, but not smart enough to identify where it's smart. Smart people are aware that it's smart, in some ways terrifyingly smart, and are able to identify domains in which it excels and in which it lags. Smart people can also look at the trend.
