Meta is actually really unique from what I heard. They have a month or so of "bootcamp" where some of the best minds of a graduating year are dumped in to pick up IT tickets across all of their projects. The Product/project managers just sniff out the talent from there and call Dibs. Drastically different from something like Google where you have a week of sit down meetings watching and learning and not showing your skillset. For what that is worth. The dudes in the middle are waiting for vest or they were "acqui-hired" with weird liscencing deals squatting on their talent. That is most likely the case with AI talent which is really scarce. They found a very specific way to use AI that likely has already been made obsolete, but they showed they have chops. So they get the "start up" sold to the highest bidder that is just squatting on their talent until they win the race to AGI.
