I think the fact is that most ‘online’ talk in tech about AI are by younger more inexperienced developers. Sure AI is great for greenfield development on a few thousand line codebase, but when you’re working on larger million line, 15 years of tech debt code bases, AI just does NOT replace the engineers working on those kinds of products. The fact is there has, and always been more money in selling things to those who know no better - think courses etc, and AI is just a progression on that I think. I love using AI but it’s essentially just replaced google for me, it doesn’t actually bring much in terms of job efficiency perse as it just can’t do the job yet. I think the truth is it will never actually replace engineers, instead just increasing what an engineer is capable of outputting
