I mean you could go purchase a chatgpt subscription and try it out yourself, or try the free tier. Not really sure what you mean by “pretend it’s thinking for itself”, it’s still a computer program and uses statistical predictions to output words or images or audio. It’s just really damn good at it. A neural network architecture was programmed and then trained in order to do that, but there’s very little reason to believe it’s conscious if that’s what you mean.
