> We shouldn't be looking for loopholes to make it okay What is or isn't OK isn't strictly set at a work's \*copyright status\* though - if we agreed that it was, and that using a work that is copyrighted is wrong, then using Creative Commons works whose licensing allows training for AI, and works where people just say "fuck it, you can do whatever," that were created in a country where copyright is automatic, would be wrong since those are still copyrighted works. Copyright isn't on its own a synonym for "wrong" or "off limits," as it's not a synonym for the issue of licensing, lack thereof (or if it is even needed) that it seems to be used for, and IMO this ignorance to a basic tenant of copyright in the U.S is harmful because of it being the kind of ignorance that media companies that like to gain more control will, and have exploited.
