It's a lot of people with little to no professional SWE experience making big claims about things they don't even fully understand. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are people who are bitter and coping because they couldn't land a job. In reality, there's a lot more to SWE than coding simple things with well documented examples that are easily found on stack overflow. When AI is capable of abstract thought and reasoning, we'll be in trouble... but so will literally every other white collar job at that point. It will enable higher productivity per developer, but that's just the nature of this industry. Software is constantly becoming easier to create, and has been since the first computers were invented.
