Your reaction is luddite demagoguery. Needed and necessary aren't even particularly useful terms for an advanced technological society. How many of our modern industries and jobs are needed and necessary? The premise that humans won't have any role in a society with true general AI (which is still very much a future speculative concept) is unfounded. Our society will be whatever we create it to be. With greater efficiency we have the capacity to provide greater education, resource distribution, and economic freedom to a greater percentage of the population. This is the consistent long trend of technological development. Our institutions will probably need to evolve, sure. Tribalism and Feudalism aren't effective in modern advanced economies. Many of our governing models will not be effective in a post-scarcity, but more heavily centralized and global society, and they will need to change. But unless you're a hardline skynet or grey goo doomsayer, incremental enhancements in AI will increasingly empower people to do everything they want to do faster, cheaper, and with a greater degree of precision than what we have today. Those capabilities are a benefit driver for any definition of progress.
