Wish I could share your optimistic view, but companies don't seem to care if something makes sense in the long-term. All that matters is achieving "the metrics", however short-lived they are. They'll run a skeleton crew, complain, and pocket the difference. My job has also been pushing Copilot/ChatGPT for engineers. No layoffs (knock on wood), but I fear where it's heading.
