Hah, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's run into that! I was handed a ticket to refactor an old C# AspNetCore 2 REST API project to .Net 7 a few weeks ago. While I'm fairly experienced in C#, it's not a regular part of my job and I haven't worked with it in about a year. So...I asked ChatGPT for a hand. Three different times, it gave me some variation of "The xxx namespace no longer exists in .Net 7. That functionality has been replaced by the xxy namespace." Followed by long, well-crafted examples of the code needed to implement whatever I was trying to update. The problem was, those namespaces didn't exist. Never have. ChatGPT invented them out of thin air. I wasted two hours on it the first time before hitting the Microsoft documentation site and realizing the error. The worst part? When I told ChatGPT that the namespaces didn't exist, it consistently responded with some variation of "I'm sorry, you are correct. That xxy does not exist. Try this instead..." And then it would give me the proper way to do it. Which means that it HAD the correct answer, but it gave me a fictional answer anyway. WTF?!?!
