Great reply. I can think of several residents over the years who crush the boards/steps but are borderline incompetent when it comes to patient care. The USMLE and boards have not been shown to be particularly good predictors of clinical skills. Especially as some boards test you on really esoteric knowledge that isn’t relevant at all. Not saying at all AI doesn’t have a role. But I worry this focus on improving board scores is missing the point because good scores ≠ good physician (and I’m someone who historically scored very well on the MCATs, USMLEs, etc…) I wonder how it would do on a surgical oral exam.
