> I think it's so sad, and pathetic, that humans, given the chance to automate their boring jobs and dedicate their lives to art, will end up automating art just so they can spend more time on their boring jobs. You've got it backwards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVT3WUa-48Y Have a look at that. Do you have any idea how much boring grunt work they saved by having AI automatically rotoscope their video to look like anime? This writer's strike is dumb because while AI _can_ write, it is BAD AT IT. AI is great for summarizing a 40 page long congressional bill. It is terrible for writing coherent funny original movie plots that make sense. AI as it exists today could never have written Dungeons and Dragons, or GOTG3. But let's say it could. Let's imagine AI could replace artists and writers and even programmers. What would that mean? Would that mean all those people are out of jobs? Well, it might mean big coporations will no longer have a need for them, sure. But you know what it would also mean? It would mean that every small artist, programmer, musician, whoever, who wanted to create their own movies or games, to tell a story they want to tell, or to show off their own art, or their music, or the cool new physics shader they wrote... Would have the equivalent of an entire team of people there to back them up. I for example, want to make games. I'm pretty good at everything. And an expert at nothing. But let's say I decided I wanted to focus on writing, and I have an idea for an amazing visual novel. I could use an existing visual novel engine, so the coding is handled for me. But what about the art? Do you have any idea how much time it would take for a single person to create all the art for a visual novel AND write it AND compose music for it AND script it? Years. That's how much time. But with AI, assuming it were a lot better than it is now, I could use it as my artist to help me tell my story visually. I would still be acting as a director.
