This matches my thoughts and experiences pretty closely. I regularly use ChatGPT to give me sparks of inspiration. Starting from a blank slate is hard. It gives me something to work on. I use it to help me plan and prepare sessions for Pathfinder 2e, a tabletop roleplaying game similar to D&D. The things it puts out would not be fun at the table without heavy modifications. And I think this generally applies to writing for an audience rather than players, just in different ways. There’s a certain level of inventive polish that humans are capable of that chatgpt isn’t
