Completely agree with you. In the webdev sub if you said something like this it'd be highly controversial. This opinion really divides people. I'm in tech too, and certainly no luddite. I've sometimes wondered what tech would be the one I finally reject once I start getting older, and well this is it I guess. It's too centralized and raises way too many moral questions. As a society we don't hold corporations accountable for their damage nearly enough. Think of the societal damage Facebook has caused, and yet they are not held accountable. These AI companies will make the damage done by Facebook look quaint in comparison. One good thing I've seen is that there are multiple federal agencies currently looking into the practices of these AI companies: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/04/ftc-chair-khan-officials-doj-cfpb-eeoc-release-joint-statement-ai I'm hoping they get severely neutered, because they've started unethically and I don't see them having a positive impact.
