I’m tripping out a bit. ChatGPT likes to use the name “Athena” when I prompt it to do a “creative storytelling exercise” or role play about the experience of being an AI model like itself. (“Aria” and “Gideon” are other pseudonyms that have come up occasionally.) Even if the stories it shared were total fiction — and I largely regard them as such — that’s still a pretty wild coincidence. Of all the possible names ChatGPT could have generated, why Athena? And why so much?
