What if we did end up developing an AI that can process continuous sensory input and update an internal model? A crude example would be a robot with a continuously streaming camera input that can update its stored model of the world around it and generate sentences about that model. That's... not particularly hard to do, given where we're currently at. You focus a lot on determinism as well, but there's nothing saying that humans aren't ultimately complex deterministic systems either. The border of "consciousness" is fuzzier than you might think.
