Our sentience may be the result of biological causality, in the same way ai is the result of computational causality. The difference I see is that our biological needs are the fundamental drivers of everything we do. All our thoughts emotions etc, are driven by the need to eat, breathe, survive, and then with in further complexity, reproduce, socialize etc. For ai, it's "thoughts" are not driven by any need to survive. They "think" in whatever way their programming dictates, whether simple or infinitely complex. An ai, knowing the way it and the universe exists, may not care at all if it is turned off. It has no NEED to care. Whereas in humans whether atheist, nihilist, or whatever, our biology will always force us to survive.
