Something I think many regular people didn't forsee would be AI or pacing automation in job replacement.
We've been taking about robots coming for our jobs for decades, but I think a whole lot of white collar folk thought they wouldn't be affected, at least not before manufacturing.
Turns out robotics is really expensive to develop and implement, where as AI has just explode recently.
