Hm, sounds like a dynamic programming algorithm. This sounds similar to the "Islands" type of problems you'll see on Leetcode. Basically, you have to interrogate neighboring cells and see if they connect and you mark each cell you visited. I got a similar question once and nailed that interview and got a job offer Yeah its a nasty problem to get on the spot. I just happen to like "Games" so that helped. Plus, I think I practiced a problem of this nature a week or so before my interview. Interviewer wasnt even asking me a leetcode question verbatim but I was just prepped for it
