My fiancé and I have discussed complacency and how it can be adjacent to both laziness and being content/satisfied. She sees being complacent at almost all times as laziness adjacent. She has a hard time stopping and enjoying herself if she hasn’t accomplished her list of things/ tasks for the day. To me I see her as a ball of stress and anxiety who can’t stop to enjoy/ appreciate the things around her unless she’s producing at the rate that she deems productive. I personally, most often view complacency to be more satisfied/ content adjacent in that stopping and appreciating what is right there; having confidence and pride in what I have done and will do, etc. I have the ability to address that stress and realize I can offload some of that by “waiting until tomorrow,” because I know if something truly NEEDS to get done, it WILL get done. The “issue” at hand here is everyone has a different speed that they can/want to tackle life at, and those who’s anxiety rides on their perception of productivity often perceive those who don’t match their speed as complacently lazy.
