Not sure how I felt about this but reading the article, I think I'm okay.
Obviously we don't have much control over whose instagram or Facebook we might show up in, so it's not like you can just opt out of facial recognition by not using those services.
But they found an insta, which led them to a facebook, which led them to send fbi agents undercover where the guy admitted everything to them. The last part is what clinches it for me. They likely had no case if the guy kept his mouth shut.
