Perhaps an argument could be made for not making it completely open source, for vetting manufacturers before giving them the rights to make the vaccine, but that's simply not what happened here. They kept the rights completely exclusive to a single manufacturer, they didn't vet different manufacturers & countries to see which ones were qualified to produce the vaccine without fucking up and creating a PR nightmare, they just flat out refused to share even though there are certainly plenty of capable organizations all over the world who could responsibly produce the vaccine. Bill Gates is a despicable person and a liar, his excuse simply doesn't line up with reality, if this was truly the reason then the rights wouldn't be exclusive to a single company they would be shared with tons of other reputable companies that are capable of proper quality control.
