Banning this tech may actually not be the right move. There are real applications that we’d want to support using this type of technology. However, requiring an affirmative opt-in from the data subject is clearly a good call here. Also, putting serious restrictions on the expansion of consent would be helpful. Basically, companies should manage this a lot like HIPAA data. That would be one way to work with biometrics like this. Still, this type of tech is extremely problematic..
