When the industrial revolution happened society changed from the "work on it til you're done" environment to the "work 14 hours a day, the longer the factory is open the more money the boss makes" environment. The labor movement is the only reason we have normalized things like "only" working 9-5 and having a two day weekend, etc.
It's going to be exactly the same thing with automation. Without a strong movement pushing for laws to protect regular people, automation will just enrich the rich and they'll have no reason to interact with regular people at all. Unless we get the government on board the future belongs to no more than a few thousand people and their families.
