I think you overestimate the capabilities of what you call a weak AI. A mail sorting machine is making use of complex algorithms for example, but it is completely limited to that. It can not do anything beyond that. What people talk about when they warn us about AI is the type of AI that is able to develop itself further. Currently we can teach AI to learn something specific by itself. The « sound barrier » for intelligent AI, is when AI is capable of teaching itself what to learn and learn it.
