Can AI be used to influence the way large groups of humans behave? Absolutely.
Is AI itself controlling humans? Not in the least. Its other humans doing that, AI is just a tool for them.
Your argument is not an anti-thesis to Elon's argument because you are both arguing fundamentally different things and you have tried to create a false equivalence. Control implies will and AI at the stage it is now has no will to exert.
As of today, AI is not able to control humans anymore than a hammer controls the way a nail is driven into wood. It's the humans that do it.
