We do not need and should not pursue a ban on government and even private use of facial recognition technology.
We need, first a robust discussion on what the tech is and how it is being used, and then significant controls - primarily on the opaqueness of use - which make its use auditable especially, but not exclusively, in government use.
Facial recognition technology does not inherently put our liberty at risk. *People* have to do that.
