A very good example is the predictions of cardiac arrhythmias which doesn't even include machine learning. Normal heartbeat contains many time scales. But during caridac arrhythmias, the heartbeat becomes periodic and contains only one time period. Simple measures based on fractal analysis can lead to early predictions when the heartbeat is transitioning from this state containing multiple time scales to a single time scale is enough to predict it. More complex measures based on machine learning are only going to improve our predictive capabilities. We have known about these capabilities since late 1990s. From what I have heard from experts in time series analysis is that doctors here in India are too egotistical to believe in these measures and look at the proliferation of computer and machine learning based measures with undeserved scepticism. They are too hung up due on God complex.
