I work in a semi related field.
The short story is that your AI is only as good as the data you feed it. In the past, we’ve had computers read these scans at a very accurate level for data from one particular hospital, but completely fail when reading ones from a different hospital. There could be a billion reasons why that is, which is also why this title is misleading. Sure, AI’s accuracy is on par with humans for one particular dataset, but it’s still far far from being anything universal.
