This isn't about "they" as in the government or Google or cell providers or credit card companies. This is about literally anyone being able to track your movements with a few hundred dollars of dash cams and a server. If I or the government wanted to know how you drive to work today, my options are: - pay/warrant a company for the information (google, visa, etc) which has a lot of controls and oversight built in - actively follow you - gps tracker But with an open source high quality facial recognition program I can follow you AND track every single person I see along the way, where I see them, when I see them. With enough data points and just driving through town I can build a huge map of any given week where you will be. Combine with a license plate reader for more accuracy (already exists cheaply) This isn't about controlling the data. It's about who can generate it in the first place, because no data is secure forever.
