Yeah, Tariffs are one of those things that work in theory, and only in theory.
"We export more than we import, so putting tariffs on just means we make more money in the long run"
But, really, they never actually work. The only exception is when a country needs tariffs to build its economy back up, and other countries are sympathetic enough to not pull trade.
But this is not one of those exceptions.
