I've been reading a book called The Presidents Club about the partnerships and relationships between Presidents since Hoover, which was a tradition started almost single-handedly by Truman. It covers how even then the GOP had a schism between the globalist leadership and the reactionary conspiratard wing, led by Joseph McCarthy. Eisenhower was the most respected man in America for a few decades, and the power of his stature is mostly what kept the idiot wing from exercising too much national power. Fascinatingly, Truman actually offered to step down and be Eisenhower's VP if he wanted to run! Compare that level of statesmanship to what we have in the White House now... I'm planning to visit Truman's and Hoover's presidential libraries/museums next month.
