Well Buddha would understand that all things are transient, especially material things, relics and all. But he would probably advice meditating deeply on greed and actions/positions that are not in harmony with state of things - that we humans should not take more than we need, should not harm vitality of others, be other humans or animals... I understand it's more of an engineering or math problem to figure out the rate of resource depletion and increase of pollution and all given that we don't control our development/growth... But the fundamental should be achievable through good reasoning...
Edit: just wanted to add I am feeling sad, and I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone
