Look at it this way. Eventually a country will make it. Eventually it will be done by someone. So why shouldnt it be you but soneone else? Why shouldnt it be your country but other countries? And mind you we are most likely not alone in this universe. There may be thousand or even millions or even maybe billions of other intelligent civilizations outside of our human civilization. We dont even know how far we are behind other alien civilizations in terms of technology etc, and yet here we are trying to prevent anyone in our civilization from doing something that some other intelligent civilizations in the rest of the universe will eventually certainly do? If something would eventually be done it is better that we do it first rather than others.
