It won't go away even then... See nuclear weapons proliferation. AI has a much lower barrier to entry. I could probably make an AI-driven armed robot in a few hours, including shopping for parts. And I'm not an expert in any of the relevant fields. Would it be advanced? No. Would it work? Probably.
There are many reasons AI is viewed with potential concern. This is one of them.
