Every time there is one a post that mentions biodiversity, I always make a comment about planting native species in your yard if you have one. It is such a tiny thing to do, but it can actually support biodiversity.
There are lots of attractive, easy to grow plants that support pollinators. [The Xerces Society has plant lists for the US and parts of Canada](http://www.xerces.org/pollinator-conservation/plant-lists/). [The Pollinator Partnership also has more region specific plant lists for the US and Canada](http://www.pollinator.org/guides.htm).
The Kerner Blue Butterfly is native to the Great Lakes region and and New Hampshire. It is currently an endangered species. There is only one plant known to support Kerner Blue Caterpillars- Wild Blue Lupine. If you're in the Great Lakes region (including Ontario) or NH and you have a yard with a sunny spot, plant some Wild Blue Lupine.
Another endangered butterfly is the Myrtle’s silverspot, which is native to California north of SF. These butterflies need viola adunca to lay their larva. South of SF, the Callippe silverspot butterfly needs viola pedunculata as a host plant.
In the Pacific Northwest, the oddly named fuzzy tongue penstemon is pretty, low maintenance, and supports a bunch of pollinators.
New Jersey Tea is a small flowering bush that supports a lot of pollinators in the Eastern US. In the South and Midwest, the Eastern Redbud is a small flowering tree that supports a lot of pollinators.
