If technology belonged to the people, I would agree. However, new technology will first benefit those with great wealth - the large, global corporations and the oil moguls who are now buying up aquifers and water rights so they can profit from scarcity - who can afford to implement new technology and automation. Until there is a massive shift away from capitalism, and especially corporatism, scarcity will win. Scarcity is much more profitable.
