Directly after WWII the British Economy was in the toilet and if there was a measure of wealth equality it was only because everybody was broke. As for the modern wealth inequality it really started in the 1970's and accelerated steadily up until about 2008. After 2009 it accelerated on steroids because of all the funny money that was printed, sorry I mean QE. This large injection of capital created massive asset bubbles in the markets of which the main beneficiaries were people who had convertible assets (like a lot of the worlds billionaires) or who benefited from working in the industry (banking) which created the flow of money into the economy. Similarly if you go back to the industrial revolution the super rich were, again, from the industries where money was created into the economy - factories.
