Wealth disparity is a red herring. It doesn't inherently say anything about standard of living. E.g., if X makes 25k and Y makes 50k, and both their incomes double, then both wealth inequality and standard of living have risen (all other things being equal).
I don't know about the standard of living in the UK, just saying that wealth inequality says nothing about it.
