This won't happen in economic isolation. Incomes and spending power for average people in the developed world have been on the slide for a couple of decades. But, more and more of what we need is not counted by regular GDP measurements in the growth/capitalist part of the economy. We are due a heavy dose of deflation in the 2020's. As more and more jobs are replaced by AI - think Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, etc Their services, now mediated by AI, will be ultra-cheap or free. The housing market can readjust to the new reality of falling incomes too. I think the wider context to all of this is that we are transitioning to another version of capitalism and while on paper this looks like we are getting poorer - were not - only through the eyes of a "constant growth" model of capitalism. Growth fueled by debt only works when incomes rise - that model is gone forever - I think by the 2020's people will start to recognise this more & we can organise ourselves around a new version of capitalism - where many goods are cheap/free and not scare at all.
