1) This is obviously a good idea 2) This will obviously be ignored. Autonomous weapons are just going to be too effective to give up on. A robot that can identify a threat in a millisecond is always going to win against something with a human operator. Invading a country with robot soldiers means no flag-draped coffins and, I would actually guess far fewer civilian casualties, as robots could be programmed to let themselves die if self-defense means civilian casualties. The flip-side of course is that you'll no longer even need to maintain a loyal army to impose your will. Look what happened in Egypt when the Army refused to crush the protests against Mubarak. That wouldn't have happened if they were all robots. Which is exactly why people like Mubarak will want them.
