One thought: the move towards identifying and developing treatment for mental illness has served to reduce demonization of the mentally ill. The more open we are, the more is known, the more accepted and "normal" it becomes. I intend to take this to the next level by asserting that what we once wrote off as "just evil people doing evil things" is in fact more complicated and a worthy subject of dispassionate medical research leading to compassionate medical treatment. The goal is not to eliminate "Evil" with fancy wordplay, it is to change how we think of the concept itself in order to change how we seek to resolve the problem.
