Eating all day resembles a running engine. The motor never gets a chance to cool down. Parts break faster under constant pressure. Fasting simply turns the ignition key off.
I am having very hopeful early results with multiday fasting and microfasting. Youtubes of dr Prodip Jamnadas like this one are a big help and inspiration for me. Shorter versions are also there, but miss some important details.
'Autophagy' for it's discovery Nobel prize in physiology was awarded in the year 2016.
I have been doing intermittent fasting for over a year and sometimes go 24-48 hours without food. I have lost a lot of weight and now can't eat more than half of what I used to eat. I assume my stomach has shrunk due intermittent fasting.
What Ayurveda was preaching since ages, now modern medicine is re casting with scientific terms
The autophagy and BDNF connections are where the most interesting research is heading. Good reminder that fasting isn't one-size-fits-all — context and guidance matter.
This is a thoughtful overview, especially because it includes the caution that often gets missed in conversations about fasting. One nuance I think matters is that fasting is not only a question of the fasting window. The response depends on the whole biological and lifestyle context around it: metabolic health, medication use, stress, sleep, protein intake, micronutrient adequacy, and the quality of what someone eats when the fast ends. That is where the discussion becomes more practical. Some mechanisms linked to fasting are promising, but in real life, the value comes from whether the approach is safe, sustainable, and nutritionally complete for that individual. Fasting can be a useful tool for some people, but it should not be treated as a universal shortcut. The pattern around the fast matters just as much as the fast itself.
intermittent fasting is amazing
Autophagy works good if prolonged
Like anything, it’s important to understand context . I’m in a rebuild phase , do you think my coach is going to tell me to fast ? Of course not, I need a high protein intake and healthy fats. This is the grey area “ the I fast “ but drive to work , or I fast and I’m overweight. One single action is not enough, it’s the combination. My Boron with resistance training. Is far more effective than just Boron .
Strong, well-balanced overview Ravi Samrat Mishra and what stands out most is the emphasis on both potential and responsibility. Because fasting, like many metabolic interventions, is not just about benefits in isolation, it’s about context, duration, and individual variability. The physiological mechanisms you highlighted, especially insulin sensitivity, autophagy, and neurotrophic signaling, are exactly why it has attracted scientific interest in recent years.
What are your thoughts on the recent evidence presented to suggest that fasting actually causes more stress to the system and increases inflammation by increasing systemic Cortisol levels please?
Alan Kirk I think that may have to do with time frame. 0-48 hrs HGH is amplified. After longer periods up to 5 days, cortisol is increased up to 1.8 fold. This may impact your statement above. PMID: 8636290
Ekadashi ki Jay!
TCOY Wellness fasting 👍🏻👍🏻✅
Fasting is not simply the absence of food it is a biologic signal that shifts the body from constant consumption toward repair, adaptation, and cellular resilience.
I am doing 36 hours fasting from past 15 weeks and i observed consistent weight management and after fasting i will loose atleast 1 to 1.5 kg without any workout.
This is a thoughtful overview. Fasting has moved far beyond being just a wellness trend, and the growing research around metabolism, recovery, and cellular health makes it a fascinating area to explore responsibly.
i suggest if there is a tracker for fasting included in the wearables is a nice thing that can show the progress.
